I just finished reading the new article on how the combat process works. ( http://ex-illis.com/en/page2_article_melee.xml) Good stuff, I really like what I see. :) I have a couple of questions, though!

Quote:
Defend: This action puts every miniature into a defensive position. Though the unit forgoes its attack with this action, it significantly increases its chance to block, evade or deflect future attacks, and it greatly improves the miniature's retaliation.

This is an interesting mechanic for a minis game! I'm curious... Does it improve the miniature's retaliation chance? Retaliation damage? Or both?

Quote:
Mastery Skill (a unit can have one or two of these, depending on specialisation)
Final Skill (a unit can have only one, and only if it has committed to a specialization)

I love the specialization options. My question is- when you pick a specialization for a unit- does it effect just that one figure? Or all figures of that type (Billman, for example)?

Thanks! :D

The exact effects of the Defend action is yet to be determined during playtesting. Placeholders currently allows infinite retaliations while Defending, increasing retaliate chances at the same time. You may expect to see the Defend action being as important a the Fight action in the game :!:

Thank you, BonifaciusVIII! I think it's a very exciting mechanic, I look forward to seeing how it plays out.

How about the specializations; does the specialization apply to just one figure or the whole squad of that same type (like, just one Billman, or all the Billmen in your army)? :)

Levelling is by unit (what you call a squad, which is composed of somewhere between 1 and 10+ figs).

Are there plans to have abilities that effect EXP gain? Maybe a skill that allows veteran troops to "teach" the less experienced troops.

Also are there plans to allow trading of units?

Yep!

Not exactly veterans teaching new units, but something similar. On one hand: the player earns some XP as well and can spend it on lower-level units so they reach the rest of the collection.

Training is also an option also an option (although a costly one, gold-wise) and will enable units to go over their normal limit, but it'll force you to make some tough choice has to where you want to spend your resources. ;)
